Pawling Mountain Road Race 2012

Rob Kelley, owner of Pawling Cycle and Sports, was the main promoter of the Pawling Mountain Road Race. Pawling Cycle and Sports has been sponsoring this race, which is also the NYS Road Racing Championship, for six years. This race had been previously run a little further west in Unionvale.

Kelley said that the reason bike riders come to the Pawling Mountain Road Race is not only because it’s a state championship, but because of the location. He also stated that the race’s location is key because it is close to the city but still relativity quiet. Riders say they enjoy riding in the Pawling Mountain Road Race because of its challenging hills and beautiful scenery.

The race started on Lake Side Drive near Murrow Park, and traveled up and down mountains, through the old starting point in Unionvale, and finally ending back on Lake Side Drive. Races were based on all levels of qualification from professional to novice, and all riders were required to be NYS licensed.
