Opening of Admiral Worden Exhibit: Friday, August 24th 5-7p.m.

The Historical Society of Quaker Hill and Pawling invites all to the opening of the Admiral John L. Worden exhibit at the John Kane House, East Main Street, Pawling, NY on Friday August 24, 2012 from 5-7 PM.

John L. Worden, Pawling’s Ironclad Hero of the Civil War, commanded the ironclad Monitor in its battle against the Merrimack/Virginia at the Battle of Hampton Roads on March 8-9, 1862.

In addition to interesting details concerning the building of the Monitor and the battle itself the exhibit chronicles Worden’s early life and his marriage to Olivia Toffey of Quaker Hill.  Details on his career, life and time on Quaker Hill are covered.  Olivia’s nephews, Daniel and John Toffey were also Civil War heroes as the exhibit will show.

The opening reception is a fund raiser with proceeds going to the Roof Fund of the Kane House. Support levels per family are “Lieutenant” for $25, “Captain” for $100, and “Admiral” for $250.  The exhibit will be open on weekends for the rest of the season.

Event Coordinator,
