Lakeside Park’s Summer Concert Series showcased “The River Rats” August 18th.
The mostly older, lawn chair audience, enjoyed a cooler than expected evening in front of the Lakeside stage pavilion. It was a truly fun concert, featuring a wide variety of 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and more recent classic and eclectic music.
The band members; Jimmy Lee (lead singer), Tony D’Allesandro (guitar), Chris Kingsley (drums), and Scott Lochhead (bass), gave this rather large crowd exactly what they came for. It was tap your feet, clap your hands good ole’ Rock N’ Roll & Blues music.
The first set featured cover tunes from performers such as North Mississippi Allstars, Los Lobos, John Mayer, Galactic, Blackfoot, Alvin Youngblood Hart, and more. The audience seemed to really pick up their sing-a-long participation during the second set. The talented band then covered some more familiar artists such as The Black Crowes, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, James Brown and The Cars.
The Beatles medley was in particular, more than satisfying to this concertgoer. The River Rats Band, and especially lead singer, Jimmy Lee, made us all feel like we were back in the mid 1960’s. It was a good feeling. The work week just seemed to melt away in the cool weekend air.
