Since the beginning of the summer, the Pawling Central School District (PCSD) has seen many changes take place in its ranks.
There is a new Interim Superintendent (Mr. Michael Mahoney), a new Interim Superintendent for Curriculum (Mrs. Elsa Kortright-Torres), new principals in both the High School (Mrs. Helen Callen) and the Elementary School (Dr. Debra Kirkhus), and a vacancy yet to be filled for an Elementary/Middle School Assistant Principal.
Along with these also came changes to the Board of Education (BOE), namely a change in leadership and two newly elected BOE members. With such widespread upheaval in PCSD’s leadership, the community took note and filled the Middle School Cafeteria at a Board of Education Meeting in a show of commitment and concern for the education of their children. There is still much to be accomplished, most notably finding a permanent superintendent. Just as important is continuing to monitor the new leadership to ensure it remains a positive force for children.
These are Pawling’s community schools and as such they should reflect the wants and needs of its citizens. It is up to us, the community, to stay informed, stay committed and speak up for what we want for our children.
