Saturday, November 3rd from 12-3 p.m. families visiting the Pawling Library will join tens of thousands of people around the world playing games together at their local libraries as we celebrate the American Library Association’s International Games Day. We’ll feature this year’s special game, “Labyrinth,” provided by one of this year’s sponsors, Ravenburger.
The latest map shows participating locations include libraries from every state in theU.S., as well as inArgentina,Canada,Finland,France,Germany,Italy,Pakistan, andPuerto Rico; and, you guessed it, The Pawling Library! Organizers expect to attract more than 20,000 people in over 1,200 libraries playing games on the same day.
“International Games Day is a one-of-a-kind event that brings people together to play, which is why The Pawling Library is proud to participate again this year,” said Scott Jarzombek, Director of the Pawling Library. At a time when so many families are struggling and overwhelmed, The Pawling Library as well as many other libraries across the country offer a chance for communities to come together around games. International Games Day focuses on the social and recreational role that board and video games offer to library users of all ages, in the same way libraries facilitate connections to books.
Lots of kids play games at home – alone, with siblings, or with friends. At the library, kids socialize with their friends and play board and video games while surrounded by books, librarians, and knowledge. Gaming at the library encourages patrons to interact with diverse peers, share their expertise with others (including adults) and develop new strategies for gaming and learning. Families can join others in making time to play together at their library while meeting new people and trying out new games in a safe and friendly atmosphere. We’re hoping that families in an around the Pawling area will make time during the day to stop by and enjoy some game time. Children ages 3-7 years old can come by with their families to enjoy some great new games. Kids ages 8 and up are welcome to stop by with a friend and see what we’ve got to offer. Games will be available from 12 – 3 pm on a first come, first serve basis. So come on down and join the fun! Just give us a call and let us know if your family plans to participate at 855-3444.
International Games Day at your library is an initiative supported by the American Library Association and its 2012 sponsors, PopCap, Ravensburger & Game Table On-Line. For more information about International Games Day, visit ilovelibraries.org/gaming.
