Bits of Inspiration: Shadows and Tall Trees

As I stood inside this Redwood tree, I felt protected, nourished and safe. I felt the size, scope and strength of nature. I felt connected to something way bigger than my small self. I felt the power, wonder and majesty of a force beyond anything I’ve ever experienced before. Truly, the force of nature.

We have witnessed this force when it overpowers us and wreaks havoc with our homes and very lives. We experience this force when we sit still in the quiet of a forest, or commune with the ebb and flow of a vast ocean. Stare at the magic of a sky that holds dramatic eclipses, multitudes of stars, humongous puffy pure white clouds floating across the blue.

Spending time in nature synchronizes our natural rhythms to the universal heartbeat. It supports our own natural timing to be in the right place at the right time. It revives our energy level and renews our spirit. As with the rhythms of the seasons, so too do we change.

Take in the sounds of raindrops failing, rustling leaves in the wind, the birdsong at dawn, the buzz of the insects. Take in the sights and colors, the smells of sweetness, the feeling on your skin, the clearing of your head, the nourishment of your heart, the grounding in your belly. Relax, be held, and be inspired.

Nature takes us out of the thinking mind, the doing self, into our human being-ness.

Feel into the sacredness that is there, reflecting back to us our very own sacredness. Nature is us—connect to who you are.

“Nature can bring you to stillness. That is its gift to you. When you perceive and join with nature in the field of stillness, that field becomes permeated with your awareness. That is your gift to nature.

Through you, nature becomes aware of itself.

Nature has been waiting for you, as it were, for millions of years.”

Eckhart Tolle
