Joe and I were delighted to visit with area artists on this beautiful Sunday Autumn Morning. We drove along local roadways– the foliage changing colors, the air crisp, the sky so blue along the Putnam/Dutchess art trail.
Our tour began at the White Barn, Patterson where we were greeted by Gretchen Hoffman Abene, Kathy L Braun, Karen Presser, Jeanette Rodriguez and Mary Smoot-Sauter. After some delicious treats and apple cider, we enjoyed viewing and discussing their works in Jewelery, Photography and Paintings. We then got back on the trail and followed the large, bright yellow signs marked with arrows leading us to Front Street Gallery where we viewed “REFLECTION” an exhibition featuring beautiful, multimedia works of 19 area artists. We spoke to Artist, Shelley Dell about her painting entitled “ “Hudson River-8-09-2014” (water based media) and later continued to view the many creative works of art .
Our next stop was a visit to Anne Godetsky’s home and studio, Pawling, where we had a wonderfully informative chat about working with oils while we viewed her many lovely paintings of Pawling Scenes, The Ocean and more. Then, we forged on to see Lonna Kelly’s magnificent photographs and John Colantuono’s amazing abstract paintings. Here we discussed how fortunate we are to be able to become acquainted with the artwork right here in our area. And we expressed our thanks to Lonna and her colleagues for their participation in making it all happen.
In Holmes, we visited Kathleen Heidemann, Artist at her studio, The Slab Ceramic Art Studio, where we were discussed the process of pottery making while enjoying the lovely decorative as well as useful pieces on display. The day was drawing to a close and we decided to amble from Route 292 into the hills of Holmes to visit with Linda Puiatti at her Open Studio Event, also happening on this Sunday. It was very interesting to discuss her approaches as she develops her ideas for her beautiful oil paintings..
All and all, a very exciting and eventful day for us–a day filled with cordiality and beauty everywhere, here, all around us. We are most appreciative for the kind hospitality extended to us by everyone we met on the Art Tour and for the organizers and sponsors of this Year’s event. We look forward to next year.
