Make a Saturday morning date with summer tomatoes that NEVER disappoint!
The Pawling Farmers Market runs through October 6th. Unlike past years, this year the Market has some swanking new grounds on the Pawling Village Green. And unlike a normal market, here vine-ripened tomatoes co-mingle effortlessly with karate demos and soap-making sessions.
The organizers of this market put a lot of energy into making Saturday mornings fun, interesting and even educational. While kids frolic around Annie Bananie ice-cream and juicy peaches from Prospect Hill Orchard, dancing to the sounds of a home-spun family band (the market always has a special event to keep you entertained), adults flirt with crisp kale and plump bi-colored corn from Dykemans Farm. Coast to Coast Dog Treats even has something for man’s best friend. And lets not forget the man himself: nothing like some local wine from Cascade Mountain Winery to top off that perfectly local Saturday night meal. Don’t forget an after dinner cheese tasting with Amazing Real Live Cheese. On special Saturdays, get treated to mouth-watering demos on crepe-making from Petite on Main or perfect your pie-making skills with a demo from The Little Bake Shop (all made with ingredients from the market).
This year, the Market is introducing a new “Worth Getting up for” card. For every $10 you spend with a PFM vendor you will get a stamp on your card. Once you garner 10 stamps you will qualify for a 20% discount at a local participating business in the village like The Book Cove, Good Tidings, Utter Brothers, The Little Bake Shop and more. Sign up for a Friday evening e-mail blast for a little culinary inspiration with recipes from Rural Intelligence and author Alana Chernila.
If you’re left hungering for more, ‘like’ the Pawling Farmers Market on Facebook or visit pawlingfarmersmarket.org for a detailed list of vendors and events.
One last thing: mark your calendar busy on Saturday mornings. You wouldn’t want to miss this!
See you at the Pawling Farmers Market! It’s worth getting up for!
