With the warm, summer weather comes one of Pawling’s most anticipated and well-loved community events: the Farmers Market.
Starting on Saturday July 7th, and continuing for fourteen Saturdays (ends October 6th), this open air, family-oriented market brings together local farmers and artisans for a celebration of everything we love about our little town. Drop by the Village Green at 9 a.m. to enjoy a morning full of delicious food, good music, and fun activities.
The Market will consist of a variety of vendors selling veggies, fruit, granola, flowers, and even dog treats. All food is grown within a 100-mile radius of Pawling. The Market will also feature a booth for our very own Pawling Public Radio – stop by and say hi!
Once you’re done shopping, you can enjoy live music from a different local artist each week. There will also be a new activity each week; look forward to pumpkin painting, yarn art, balloon twisting, and a pie-making.
Terry Deegan has been running the Farmers Market for five years. The idea was born when Deegan realized that there was no location in the area to purchase local, organic food. Recognizing this need in the community, Deegan teamed up with her friends Steve Ewing and Leslie Lee to create a humbler version of the market we know and love today. The initiative has grown since then – now Deegan has a board of ten community members (a farmer, an attorney, an Internet guru, and many other diversely talented individuals) helping her out.
“We have lots of new vendors coming, and we’re thrilled,” says Deegan. “It’s going to be a good year.”
