Maryrose Canevari, a Pawling resident and junior at Arlington High School, is proud to be representing her school in several local, state, and regional choral performances this school year.
She performed in the NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) Area All State Concert Mixed Choir at Taconic Hills School in Craryville, NY this November. Maryrose was also selected to represent her high school concert choir at the NYSSMA All State Conference for 2017. In order to be chosen, students must receive a score of 99 to 100 on a NYSSMA level six solo performance. Adjudicators will then rank the students and recommend him/her for participation in the conference. Over 7,000 students audition and 900 are selected throughout the state.
Maryrose performed “Odel Mio Dolce Ardmore,” by Gluck and will be representing her school as the selected soprano in the mixed choir. Students will spend three days studying under a professional director. The final performance will be held at the Eastman Theater in Rochester New York the first weekend in December.
Maryrose was also selected to participate in ACDA, (American Choral Directors Association) Eastern Division. ACDA was founded in 1959 and is a not-for profit music education organization whose mission is to “inspire excellence in choral music through education, performance, composition, and advocacy.”
Maryrose submitted four recordings to be evaluated by judges and was selected to attend. The conference will be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania March 7-11, 2018. In preparation for their performances, the students receive packets of music, recordings, and work with their school choir director in class and small group lessons.
Maryrose was the winner of last year’s Pawling’s Got Talent, sponsored by Pawling Public Radio. She is very excited and honored to be representing her school’s choral music department in these educational, professional, and fun choral experiences.
