Gallery on the Green today introduces its July exhibition of drawings by Carol Heft. The exhibit opens with a reception 5-7 pm on July 23 and will run through August 20th. This collection of drawings takes you into the artist’s mind by showing all the attempts, adjustments, and marks of exploration—along with the final elegant resolution. The lines are fluid, dynamic and very much alive.
Heft currently teaches at Muhlenberg College, Monroe College, and Cedar Crest College, All of these drawings were all done in front of beginning drawing students as demonstrations of how to use materials, compose, explore marks in the context of figure drawing, and, mostly, focus on capturing the energy of the pose. “I’ve always wanted to exhibit them together,” says Heft, “I think as a body of work they are strong.
Carol Heft will be featured in a book to be published later this year by Tim Phelan, 50 Contemporary Artists. Her bio includes: painting with Robert Brackman as a child, and attending Rhode island School of Design. She has named Paul Klee, Antonio Gaudi, Isaiah Zagar, Jean Dubuffet among her influences and has had numerous solo exhibits at galleries in Manhattan.
