The Fresh Air Fund is an independent, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, which provides free summer experiences to New York City children from low-income neighborhoods. During the summer, thousands of children will leave behind hot and crowded New York City streets to visit families in the communities in 13 Northeastern States and Canada.
Here in the Hudson Valley, we are always recruiting new Host Families. We are looking for families that are willing open up their hearts and their home to a child for a week or two during the summer. We have currently three trips set up; they are for one or two weeks or a ten day visit.
A Host family is asked to apply to become a host and everyone over the age of 18 must agree to a background check. During the application process we ask the family for four references, what the family summer activities are, what gender and age of a child they would like to host and our NYC office does their best to match them with the perfect guest! There is no cost to the Host family. All we ask it that they make an extra sandwich for that summer picnic and provide a bed for the child to sleep in. Allow them to be a part of the family for a week or two and change their lives forever!…and the hosts too.
