SATURDAY, JUNE 27, 6:30PM
Stravinsky takes command of the Music Mountain stage when Cantata Profanabrings Stravinsky’s own piano 4-hand version of this tradition shattering work (the Paris audience greeted its premiere with rioting and cat calls). Then l’Histoire du Soldat, (A Soldier’s Tale), based on a Russian folk tale in which a soldier trades his violin to the devil in return for great economic success. And, of course, it ends as you would expect. This is a spectacular work.
Cantata Profana is making their Music Mountain debut with this Stravinsky program. This is their third season and they have begun to perform widely to much praise from critics including the New York Times.
SUNDAY, JUNE 28, 3PM
