What is red and pink and petite all over? Why the “Little Red Bake Shop”, of course.
If you haven’t dropped by to pick out your favorite cupcake or scone, then you don’t know what you are missing. Julie Hunter, proprietor and baker extraordinaire will have something fresh and yummy waiting for you. She is determined to be responsive to her customer’s needs. So whether you desire something tasty that is gluten free, or customized to your special occasion or special someone, or simply want to offer something adorably and delectably perfect for your children, like her colorful cake pops, you will find Julie’s goodies sinfully delicious.
Baking is Julie’s passion, which she tells me dates back to the first cream puff she ever made when she was eight years old. Even though she has a PhD in anthropology, and a former career in academia and Information technology, her dream was always to bake. After taking an intensive course in New York City through the Culinary Institute, it was clear that this dream needed to become a reality.
Like all dreams, sometimes they get put on hold as life takes over, but as soon as all the stars aligned, she gave herself “permission” to reach for one of them…and voila!…the Little Red Bake Shop was born.
“Every day is pure joy…I love every second of it…I love every cookie…and I don’t even mind washing the dishes!, she says. Now that’s passion! She loves the creativity of designing that perfect cake to meet her client’s needs. She loves the interaction with so many people in our community. She loves the success that her little bake shop is enjoying.
Julie admits she wouldn’t be able to relish any of this if she didn’t have her wonderful assistant, Lauren Infantino, a recent graduate of the Culinary Institute with a baking concentration. Lauren is a Patterson resident and brings her own skill and baking ability into the mix. If she hadn’t starting working with Julie almost from day one when The Little Red Bake Shop became an instant hit, Julie admits she would never have been able to handle the madness alone.
All of the pastries in the shop are a product of small batch baking, which means that everything for sale is very fresh … only a couple of hours old.
Julie’s offerings are not only sweet, but savory, as well. She offers an asparagus or bacon parmesan pastry or small individual quiches for a quick and light lunch, all at very reasonable prices. And since these savory offerings are great little entrees, you don’t have to feel guilty about finishing off your mini meal with a scrumptious dessert.
Some of the other mouth-watering delights that await you at Julie’s place are her famous brownies, Lauren’s best 7 layer cookies, cakes and Canoli (chocolate chip and plain), her red velvet cupcakes, and, of course, the coffee is always brewing and always fresh.
Weather permitting, you will find Julie putting out her red umbrellas and little side walk tables and chairs, so come over and indulge in the delightful treats of Pawling’s newest venture. You will very soon agree that The Little Red Bake Shop has added its own brand of sweetness to Pawling’s Main Street.
