Journalist Evan Weiner arrived early for his presentation 1968: How Events 50 Years Ago Shaped The World. Though he officially started at 7pm, most had already been transfixed by our presenter’s stories for nearly half an hour. His lecture was a great treat that everyone wished would extend beyond the scheduled one-hour time frame. While he spoke, the audience viewed projected images taken throughout 1968, that for some, triggered memories of this turbulent year, from the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy to the closing of college campuses by student protesters. We learned of how music played a major role in turning Americans against the Vietnam war and of Richard Nixon’s appearance on Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In that changed everything about presidential politics. Evan Weiner has another program devoted to the year 1969 that will be taking place at our library. Mr. Weiner is the author of six books, was awarded the Ronald Reagan Media Award from the United States Sports Academy and is widely known as global expert of the Politics of Sports Business.
