Fun, high energy, always smiling, exciting. These are all words that players, writers and coaches have used to describe this week’s #ManCandyMonday player, Nick Swisher of the Cleveland Indians. My heart dropped when I found out the ever energetic Swish was no longer going to be a New York Yankee and was taking his talents to his home state of Bro-Hio. I hung up my Swisher jersey in sadness but just because he left New York doesn’t mean he left my heart. His average this season is not exactly where he or anyone would want it to be but his game on the field isn’t the only reason he’s our top pick from the Cleveland Indians this Monday.
Swisher’s energy can only be described by one word; BEYOND. I have an endless amount of Yankee Stadium memories and I’m happy to say that one of the more fun memories came on Swish’s behalf. I was lucky enough to have scored some tickets a couple rows back in right field, two summers ago, right smack dub in the middle of Swisher’s fan club. It was awesome. The attention and love he shows to the fans is amazing and if I remember correctly, I’m pretty sure he went 3 for 4 that day with a homerun. Every time he jogged out to his spot in the field, the crowd serenaded him with cheers and he responded with bows, cheers and some dancing. Swisher can lift anybody’s spirits in an instant with that dazzling grin and clearly it also helped scoring him such a beautiful woman as his wife, Johanna Garcia.
Swisher has also put his fun loving life style into good use by recording a children’s album in 2011 with the proceeds going to his charity, “Swish’s Wishes” which helps children who are dealing with health crises. He’s constantly supporting team mates, present and past in their fundraising and also is always constantly keeping up with his fans as well via social media and contests. Now, I couldn’t possible mention past team mates without mentioning the glorious bromance that is Swisher and David Robertson. I love, their love and that’s all that needs to be said. Also, I just watched an interview from the Indian’s Opening Day this year and it pumped me up to another level, going to channel that energy at the gym later, thanks bro. Swisher’s crazy energy and upbeat personality make him such a lovable character and I can only imagine what kind of precious father he is to his new daughter, Emerson Jay Swisher.
“I am so excited. I never in a million years thought I’d have a little girl, but over the last six months, the pink and purple dresses that I’ve bought, I’m telling you. …My wife Jo, she says, ‘You’re going to spoil that little girl so much.’ I can’t wait, man.”
Adorable and just flat out sweet. Sweet enough to suffice our #ManCandyMonday craving. Thank you Swish, for providing us with endless entertainment on and off the field. Miss you lots here in New York.
Sequined Yankee hat off to you Swish.
