The Pawling Varsity Girls Basketball team opened this year’s season with a scrimmage on November 29, 2013 against Yorktown High School. The team certainly proved they are ready for an exciting season. Returning athletes are: Erin Waters, Brenna Smith, Elaine Roman, Michelle Piazza, Dana Farese, Courtney Meissner, and Karen Garcia. New this year to Varsity are: Katie Meyer, Mackenzie Meissner, Devin Meaney and Liz Frost.
They hosted a first-ever 2013 Pawling Tiger Athletic Club Invitational Tipoff Basketball Tournament on December 5-7, 2013.
Their first game was against Dover. They won their first home game in 3 seasons in the opener of this tournament. Final score was Pawling 34, Dover 24. “It was a great team win,” Pawling coach John Sullivan said. “Our goal for this weekend is to try to win our tournament.” They achieved that goal during the championship game against Palisades Prep with a final score of Pawling 43, Palisades Prep 20. The Tigers won their second straight game at home to start the season and won the Pawling Tiger Invitational. “It’s a fantastic feeling,” Pawling coach John Sullivan said. “It’s something the girls have worked hard for. This is a great experience for them and it’s going to give them great confidence moving forward in the season.”
On December 18, the Tigers played and won their third official game against Solomon Schecter that ended in a final score of Pawling 60 and Schechter 17. The Tigers scored 15 points in each quarter. The team took their first loss against Walter Panas on December 20 with a final score of Pawling 26, Walter Panas 52.
The Pawling Varsity Girls Basketball team starts 2014 with an away game scheduled for Friday, January 3 at 6:45pm against Putnam Valley.
