The Pawling Garden Club began 2014 with a new president and a new schedule. Geneva Claire Hamilton, President, is an artist, naturalist, and natural science illustrator in the Smithsonian’s Guild of Natural Science Illustrators.
In the community, she is involved in environmental causes and also is on the Publicity and Events Committee for the Beatrix Farrand Garden Association of Bellefield at the F.D.R. Presidential Site. In Pawling, she was former Treasurer of FROGS (Friends of the Great Swamp) and served on the Steering Committee for its annual fund-raising art exhibits.
The Pawling Garden Club had its first meeting of the season on April 17 at Trinity-Pawling School at the home of the headmaster and his wife, Archibald and Gay Smith. Several members of the Garden Club presented their floral arrangements, which showcased the unique talents of members.
On April 25 members of the Garden Club and the community assembled at the Pawling Firehouse with officials of the Pawling Fire Department to celebrate Arbor Day and the planting of two native dogwood trees donated by the Garden Club.
On Saturday, June 7 from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 Noon the Pawling Garden Club will hold its annual fund-raising Spring Market at the Pawling Firehouse, offering a wide array of garden plants, a bake/gourmet table, and a white elephant table of one-of-a-kind items—all at very reasonable prices.
The Pawling Garden Club welcomes new members. All that is required to join is a love of gardening, payment of annual dues of $30, and a willingness to participate in club activities. Anyone interested may contact President Geneva Claire Hamilton at LaArtiste7@yahoo.com.
