Local artist Bea Gustafson is coordinating the art show and sale portion of Pawling Public Radio’s August 3rd event at Murrow Park. Ms. Gustafson is bringing in the best and most talented Hudson Valley Landscape artists to show and sell their works. This will be an opportunity for members of the Pawling community and surrounding sister communities to view, appreciate and buy some of the richest En Plein Air paintings available in our area. Plein air painters capture the ever-changing light and colors of the land throughout the seasons, and Ms. Gustafson is one of best in the Lower Hudson Valley.
She starts the process with a sketch/painting to record her impressions of light, color, atmosphere and composition. Not all her paintings are completed on location…but every piece she paints has its genesis En Plein Air studies. “…Those skills honed outside make the studio work that much easier and fun.”
She “…wants to tell the viewer a story, share (her) experience with them, in the translation from nature to canvas, (she) seek(s) to discover nature’s truth and give life to a painted image by understanding the rhythms and pulses behind the appearances.” “…If I can evoke an emotional response in the viewer, I have been successful,” she says.
Bea Gustafson clearly has an artist’s eye, but it is her artist’s heart that makes PPR so proud to have her taking the lead on the gallery portion of their August 3rd event. “There are so many ways to communicate,” she adds. “When you look closely at the world around you, trees are talking to their neighbors, rocks commune with water, colors connect with light. We are but part of this picture, privileged to be here.”
Join Ms. Gustafson and other art enthusiests August 3rd at Murrow Park, and share the beauty captured by our local artists. It will be a wonderful way to spend a summer afternoon! Then plan to stay and enjoy a bar-b-que and the musical talents of Pawling’s singers and dancers and musicians, with Master of Ceremonies, Butch Anderson. This promises to be a wonderful day that the whole family will enjoy!
