FRONT STREET GALLERY, PATTERSON N.Y
After being away for three weeks, my husband, Joe, and I were so busy beautifying our lawn and backyard that we completely forgot the day and time. But what we remembered about the weekend was that there were two gallery openings (that we didn’t want to miss) taking place Friday evening in nearby Patterson; and Saturday, late Afternoon in the Village of Pawling. Thus, we put away our garden equipment, the ever present lawnmower and weed cutter, etc. and prepared ourselves to step out for awhile.
And what a delightful experience! In Patterson at the Front Street Gallery, we viewed many beautiful works, aptly entitled HOME, by 18 talented local artists utilizing a variety of media. Works include portraiture, collage, landscape, photography and more. Lewis Folden received First in Show exhibiting from his collection “Rowhouse (2)” and “Once Upon…white(3)”– Media: Acrylic; Honorable Mentions were awarded to Nina Jordan for her Woodblock Prints entitled: “Homes for under $50,000 XI. Gary, IN”; “Homes under $50,000 VII, Buffalo, NY “; Daniel Van Benthuysen exhibiting Green Street Sunset and Second Story Sunset, Oil on Jute on Panel. Artists also exhibiting their work(s) at the Front Street Gallery are: Debra Benko; Louise Black; Pam Cooper; Lizzy Cross; Gary Esposito; Amy Farrell; Karen Friedland; Victoria Hayes; Travis Head; Nicole Hughes; Karen Jacobs; Judy Lee; C.C. Long; Ginger Mold; Mary Parker; Linda Petrocine; David Potter; Karen Presser; Alan Reich; Holly Knox Rhame; Joanna Rilna; Rena Scelia, and Ellen Wallenstein. In addition, and a most delightful surprise, was a display of colorful Dichroic Glass Jewelry items by Jeanette Rodriguez. It was wonderful to view the creative works of the aforementioned local artists. Our profound appreciation to Jeremy Wolff, the Artists, and all the volunteers for their dedication. The HOME Exhibition will run through June 24th. Front Street Gallery is located at 21 Front St, Patterson, and is open daily from 11am-2pm (except for Tuesdays). GALLERY ON THE GREEN, PAWLING, NY
Saturday afternoon, we continued working gingerly outside. It was a beautiful day and good to be out of doors, but after tackling our outdoor furniture and deck all day in preparation for our anticipated summer’s al fresco dining, I felt it was time to relax and take another enjoyable jaunt. So I invited Joe once again for a trip to the lovely Gallery on the Green in Pawling, also minutes from our home. (How wonderful to be able to attend events so close to home, we mutually agreed.) As soon as we walked in the door of the Gallery, we were immediately awestruck by Lynn Karlin’s artistically brilliant photography works entitled Raw Art: The Pedestal Series. 25 strikingly colorful, vivacious photos, lovingly created by Ms. Karlin portray an amazing sense of aesthetics and depth. Ms. Karlin, a graduate of Pratt Institute with many years of experience creating the beauty she sees around her, poses her subjects on pedestals against soft backdrops giving unique personalities and exquisite texture to each colorful vegetable. Viewers will be sure to think about squash, eggplant, spinach, artichoke, fennel, radish, and all vegetables in new ways. The photograph that I especially loved was a standing half of a pear on a pedestal with a soft black background displaying the exquisite negative space surrounding it. Joe returned again and again to view an intricate grouping of delicious, fresh, colorful braising vegetables….breathtakingly delightful! Food lovers, gardeners, farmers, cooks, shoppers and tasters of delicious, great produce are sure to enjoy this exhibit. Kudos to Michelle Farnum and Jay Morales for hosting Lynn Karlin’s beautiful exhibition at Gallery on the Green and for creating a sparkling exhibition for all to enjoy within our very own community. Lynn Karlin’s Raw Art: The Pedestal Series may be viewed through June 19th. The Gallery on the Green is located at 7 Arch Street, Pawling. Gallery Hours: Wednesday to Friday, 12-5pm, Saturday, 12-4pm and by appointment. Info: Telephone: 845-855-5642; www.gotpawling.com.
