My friend Joan knows a bit about Feng Shui – the study of how to arrange your environment to enhance your life. She is also an intuitive healer with a keen ability to read the energies of an environment. So when she suggested coming over to read my home environment, I was all for it.
“One of the most important qualities of your environment is that you be surrounded by things you love” Joan stated very clearly. And with that, I looked around my house and discovered that between the hand-me-downs and the gifts that, though well-intended, didn’t really suit my tastes I was surrounded my many things that I didn’t love. So I have been busy clearing out the old, stale and not loved objects, selling books and various in sundries on Amazon (which is amazingly easy, by the way), and passing on the things that are better appreciated by others than by me.
The experience of spaciousness, freedom, lightness, and enthusiasm has been remarkable. It is a work in progress, but with each change comes new energy. It’s as if the energy was locked up in these objects and is released and given back to me as I release these things back into the world.
My husband and sons have been surprisingly willing and flexible, as we change outgrown childhood bedrooms into office space and a guest room. We’re taking pictures of the walls for remembrance before we remove the sports and car photos the boys decorated them with when they were young. Then with some sadness we recognize the march of time, clear the walls and begin repainting.
There is freshness in the house as we mark this transition in our family life – updating the house to reflect where we are now in our lives. It makes room for growth and expansion, and supports who we are now and what we are creating in the present.
What objects in your home are old, stale and not loved? What areas of your home need to be changed, cleared out and updated to reflect where you are now in your family and personal lives? Imagine the experience of spaciousness, freedom, lightness and enthusiasm that can be available to you as you begin this process.
Consider it a work in progress, it takes time, but as soon as you begin, you too will feel the energy that comes with each new change. Surround yourself with the things you love and allow your home to support you in all you can be. And if you need/want help in de-cluttering, call me.
My new book is published! SHINE at Work: Be Empowered and Engaged is available at my website at www.dianeingram.com/Bookstore and on Amazon.
