Due to popular demand, the deadline to order inscribed bricks for the Pawling Green has been extended, to February 14, 2011. If you missed the chance to buy a brick as a Christmas present, now you can give one as a Valentine’s Day gift. When you declare your love with a message on a brick, it’s permanent! The Pawling Community Foundation can now offer certificates documenting your brick order – just the thing to tuck inside a Valentine card.
The Pawling Community Foundation decided to extend sales because orders for bricks did not stop after the original deadline of December 31. So far, over 400 bricks have been sold. Most of the 300+ bricks ordered by individuals celebrate friends and family, pets, special places in Pawling and favorite mottos. About 60 bricks honoring specific veterans will be placed in the Veterans’ park, and approximately 50 businesses have purchased bricks that will be incorporated into a plaza in front of the Chamber of Commerce building.
All sorts of imaginative inscriptions have been ordered. Sheriff Butch Anderson used his brick to state: “treat people the way you want to be treated.” Groups honored include the mothers and fathers of Pawling, volunteers, and hikers. “There’s no place like home” and “may peace prevail on earth” will each appear on a brick. Some pets are named: Wags, Ghandi, Knife, Leaf, Taco. Any inscription that fits on 3 lines of 18 characters per line can be ordered; use your imagination!
As always, bricks cost $100 for the first brick ordered, and $75 for each additional brick. Businesses can purchase normal 4”x8” bricks, or larger 8” x 8” bricks that can accommodate up to 6 lines of lettering, or, for $750, a logo in addition to lettering. To order, go to www.bricksrus.com/pawlinggreen or look for the postcard order forms in displays at many downtown merchants. If you would like a certificate documenting your brick, please indicate this in the comments field when placing an on-line order, or email pawlingbricks@gmail.com.
