The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Pawling, a 122-bed state-of-the-art facility, teamed up with the Pawling Library on December 16th for Christmas Breakfast with Santa, a unique event benefiting the Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie. “We are proud to serve as a community partner for this wonderful institution,” said The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Pawling Administrator, Yosef Spierer. “We recognize that many children do not have families or loved ones to shop for presents during the holiday season. We’ve brought the joy to them.”
Ahead of the event, The Grand at Pawling’s staff went out and purchased gifts for the children, taking care to learn of their particular interests as they selected the toys. “Each child received three toys, selected specifically for that child,” said The Grand Director of Recreation Christina Wooley. The event began with a breakfast hosted by Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus who distributed the gifts to children, with The Grand’s staff as his assistants.
One excited boy received a drone while his three-year-old sister received a baby doll. “I got everything I wanted,” she said. The gifts were handed to the children in colorful bags and stockings. Following their meeting with Santa, a librarian from The Pawling Library read the classic poem T’was the Night Before Christmas as well as other holiday books. “This is something we will never forget and will touch my life forever,” said Susan Romero, Hospital Liaison.
For children without families the holiday season can be a difficult time, the Christmas Breakfast with Santa offered a small but much needed measure of comfort to these children. The residents of The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Pawling always look forward to opportunities that enable them to interact with children and bring a smile to their faces.
