The New Kid on the Block
Walk in the door of the Pawling Trading Company at 27 East Main St. in The Village of Pawling and you will be transported by the rich aroma of coffee beans, surrounded by the deep, warm chocolate color of the walls, and amused by the display of burlap coffee bags from around the world that have been creatively used to decorate the ceiling. Add to this the friendly faces of owner Mark Klinger and family, quiet jazz streaming in the background, a happy-to-serve-you attitude, and I would say that Pawling has scored another winning gathering spot in its ever-changing village landscape.
The Pawling Trading Company specializes in exotic as well as standard blends of international coffees and teas, and imported and quite special nutty treats. As Mark and I sat and chatted in one cozy corner with three leather settees, he offered me a truly delicious cup of French Roast, and insisted that I watch one of his flower teas bloom in a glass carafe. It was a beautiful display, and though I was busy enjoying my cup of Joe, I was assured that the tea produced by the blooming hand sewn tea flower tasted as amazing as it looked.
Still in its “Grand Opening” phase, The Pawling Trading Company has seen a considerable amount of activity over the last two weeks. With Wi-fi availability and comfortable seating, one is encouraged to spend time. Students are welcome to come in with their laptops, have a cup of great coffee or tea, and start a little homework before heading home. Friends are encouraged to sip and indulge in conversation.
Gift baskets can be personalized for those with gourmet coffee or tea tastes, and the prices are very reasonable. Hours of operation are fluid at the moment, and will solidify once Mark gets a sense of what his customers’ needs are, but for now The Pawling Trading Company is open from 7:00AM to 7:00PM Monday through Friday. Saturday hours are from 9:00AM to 8:00PM, and Sunday from 8:00 AM to 3:00PM.
