Summer program registration is open at the Pawling Library and programs are filling up quickly! Programs are available to serve our patrons birth to adults and keep everyone engaged over the summer
Programs for our youngest patrons and a parent are designed to nurture a love a books and develop early emergent literacy skills through movement, music, rhymes and touch. Early literacy skills include all of the things young children know about reading, writing and language before they begin to read and write. As critical first teachers, parents can nurture these skills and have a direct positive impact on later reading success in school.
Our morning core literacy programs are available for children 3 years old and up. These themed literacy programs allow children to participate in a series of stations that include literacy, outdoor large motor games and art. These programs are designed to increase student’s motivation to read and engage them in reading related activities. There are also afternoon workshops for students, a family kick off program and fun end of summer events.
Does your child need reading practice over the summer? Join our Book Buddy program and your child will meet with one of our trained teens each week to practice reading, or sign up to read with our therapy dog, Wrigley. Either way your child will get the practice he or she needs to keep their reading skills sharp over the summer.
In addition to our programs, we are encouraging everyone in the community to help us read 1,000 books this summer. Information is available on our web site on how to sign you or your children up to participate in our summer reading incentive program. You’ll find our program guide, calendar events and reading incentive information all on our web site at www.pawlinglibrary.org . If you have questions, feel free to contact our staff at 855-3444 or by email at director@pawlinglibrary.org .
