PPR held its first annual Voice of Pawling awards on Sunday, March 27th at the Pawling Firehouse on South Street.
The purpose was threefold; to recognize volunteers within our community who do so much but are typically unknown; to raise awareness of the radio station’s existence; and to raise money for the organization
People from within the community who represent all facets of what makes Pawling such a desirable place to live, were brought together and honored for their contributions. Youth sports, business, community outreach, and the arts were all well represented. Those who were so deservingly recognized were: Rev. Mark Bouffard, Sibyl Gilbert, Ann Godesky, Tim King, Camille Ludington, Jim McCarthy, Jay Morales, Don & Martha Rink, and Marie Stewart.
The brunch was attended by friends and relatives of the honorees, with PPR volunteers providing and preparing most of the food. Brunch was followed by an awards ceremony that started and finished on-time. Each recipient was escorted down the “red carpet” by someone influenced by them.
The event turned out to be more successful than anyone from PPR thought. With almost 160 paid attendees, PPR raised close to $1,200, which will most likely go to much needed funds for equipment such as microphones and recording devices.
PPR feels comfortable that there are more than enough people living or working in Pawling to have a second annual Voices of Pawling brunch next year.
Of course we want to thank the award recipients and those who donated money and food to help keep our costs to a minimum. If you would like to contribute to PPR, either with a donation or by volunteering, contact………Mike Shustak at 845 493 0355 and leave a message or email email@example.com.
