When disaster struck In Nepal, Pawling Rotary jumped into action and raised $2500.00, within one week, through its community membership for ShelterBox USA. This organization provides shelter and basic living essentials in those countries that experience natural disasters where homes are destroyed and families are in need.
According to the ShelterBox USA web site, “ShelterBox aid is tailored to a disaster but typically includes a disaster relief tent for a family, thermal blankets and groundsheets, water storage and purification equipment, solar lamps, cooking utensils, a basic tool kit, mosquito nets and children’s activity pack.”
In 2012, ShelterBox became Rotary International’s first project partner.
“This agreement enables both organizations to collaborate more closely to bring relief and temporary shelter to survivors of disasters worldwide. The project partnership has built on both organization’s strengths in responding to disasters all over the world “
Pawling’s Interact Club members, sponsored jointly by Rotary and Pawling Recreation, have been designated Shelter Box Heros for their ongoing support of this relief organization over the past three years, raising $3,000. The club received this designation at the most recent district conference held last month in Danbury.
Each Shelter Box costs $1,000.00 and 100% of funds raised through Rotary International and its local affiliated clubs goes directly to providing essential relief.
