On Sunday, July 20th, the Dover Community joined in the Ride for Life charity event to support the family of the late Joseph “Joey” Thomas Awlasewicz. The event was an 80-mile bike ride ending at the newly opened Black Bear Restaurant & Tavern in Wingdale. All proceeds from the event went to Joey’s family.
The bikers and their supporters raised money and celebrated the life of Joey, who passed away in an ATV accident in June. People from all backgrounds, some who knew Joey and his family, and some who did not, all came together for a ride through New York and Connecticut.
The event began with a eulogy for Joey, and ended with a barbeque and live music from musician Dan Lavioe. The event was a beautiful tribute to a young life that ended too soon.
The Greater Faith Mission and the Black Bear Restaurant & Tavern both gave support to the cause and to Joey’s family. If any PPR listeners would like to donate to support this loving family, send your donations to Luanne Awlasewicz and the “Joey Fund” at 103 Carriage Lane Roxbury, CT 06783.
