Continuing with our healthy-living theme, I will be talking about one of the many exercise programs available here in Pawling – yoga. Last Thursday the Pawling Library held a free Hatha Yoga class.
Colloquially known as just yoga, Hatha Yoga stresses the physical aspects of the practice. Traditional yoga is an eight-limbed art that combines spiritual meditation with the physical poses. It is common practice now though to forgo the more spiritual aspects of yoga; such as Yama and Pratyhara. Hatha Yoga stresses asana, the physical poses, and pranayama, the breathing exercises that accompany the poses. This combination has become a popular form of exercise in the Western world. If this is something that interests you, you can check the Pawling Free Library’s on-line calendar to see when their next class will be.
