The Annual Pawling Public Radio Writing Contest was announced this week, with information and flyers sent to the English teachers at Pawling’s Middle and High School, Mizzentop Day School, and Trinity Pawling School
The Members of PPR’s Education Committee, Chaired by Amy Emke, have chosen “Literary Selfie” as this year’s topic, and are hoping for enthusiastic entries of 250 to 300 words from our community’s students. Questions to be considered for this topic include: “Who are You?”; What are you passionate about?”; What is the core of who you are?”; and “What is important to You?”
Prizes will be awarded in the Middle School and High School divisions. All winners will have their submissions published on the PPR website and recorded for broadcast. Winners will receive some awesome PPR swag, and award certificates. The Eleventh Grade winner will receive the “Pawling Public Radio Edward R. Murrow Book Award,” a biography of Edward R. Murrow. The winning high school senior will receive a $250 scholarship and an opportunity to join Pawling Public Radio’s Summer Internship Program for college students.
The essays will be evaluated by a panel of three judges comprised of local authors and educators. Winners will be announced on May 12, 2014.
